“Scenic designer Randy Wong-Westbrooke lavishes the audience with his recreation of a jeweled crimson and amethyst-colored nightclub, with a lithe serpentine body framing the stage.” -Stage Raw
“And the stage is flat out gorgeous. The set by Randy Wong-Westbrooke transforms from the basement where Maria Sr. lives into the Manila nightclub where she sang, and our imaginations help us see the trailer in which the kids are crammed. Set off in hot red colors, we see the karaoke machine at the center, the curved sofa/banquette to the right, to the left a bar with turquoise tufted bar stools, a small, curvy railed staircase, massive red curtains draped from the ceiling, the vaguely “Chinese” looking cabinetry, all framed by the massive, scaly, dragon-tail proscenium that changes colors at strategic moments from brilliant red to turquoise to orange, as lit by Spense Matubang.”-Stage and Cinema
“Dragon Lady looks drop-dead gorgeous too on Randy Wong-Westbrooke’s crimson-hued, Chinese dragon-themed nightclub set, dramatically lit by Spense Matubang.”-StageSceneLA
“Randy Wong-Westbrooke’s basement set gives the impression of an old-world restaurant with red motifs, dragon-tail proscenium arch, and distinctive chandelier.”-TheaterMania
“To begin, this show is visually a sight to behold with gorgeous set design by Randy Wong-Westbrooke. The strong red accents, touches of dragon scales present throughout the design, and the area where the band is revealed are just glorious!”-Larchmont Buzz
“Porkalob shares the stage with three extraordinary musicians (Pete Irving, Jimmy Austin and Mickey Stylin) who largely appear in the shadows of an inset space on the fabulous, garish red nightclub set by Randy Wong-Westbrooke.” -LA Times
“The action takes place in a vibrant, kitschy Oriental lounge setting, the expert work of designer Randy Wong-Westbrooke.”-Politics Money Culture

“There’s a static quality to the staging of Thirty-Six that enhances its unflinching post-modernity. Paneled white walls — designed by Randy Wong-Westbooke — frame the action like an Instagram reel. Matching clear lucite tables and rolling office chairs are the only furniture, easily transforming from bistro interior to apartment décor to subway seating by the power of suggestion. Table mics on stands, worthy of a podcast studio, pin the actors to their seats during their most intimate moments, allowing that same power of suggestion (and a nod to ASMR) to illustrate a far more ribald encounter than the chastely garbed performers seated on opposite sides of the stage would otherwise suggest.”-KQED
“But in Shotgun Players’ world premiere […] all their actions are narrated by a character called Stage Directions (Nic Feliciano), who perches upstage, clad all in white. She’s a bit like a Greek chorus fused with a guardian angel, intoning into her Britney Spears mic. But in Randy Wong-Westbrooke’s sleek, minimalist Apple Store-adjacent set, she’s less in heaven than in a hipster podcast studio.”-San Francisco Chronicle

“Now, before I go any further, it’s only right that I mention the real star of this production: set designer Randy Wong-Westbrooke. Whereas the script fumbles a great many details and characterizations, Wong-Westbrooke’s cinema set is meticulous. From the leftover popcorn and candy wrappers to the muted brown wall curtains and sconces to the water-stained ceiling and posters visible in the projection booth, every detail is fussed upon to perfection. […] In any case, the set stands as conclusive proof that Randy Wong-Westbrooke is one of the best set designers in the game.” -The Thinking Man’s Idiot
“[…]three workers sweep and mop floors, change reels and challenge each other on movie trivia in a dingy movie house in Worcester County, Mass. Puke green, 1981 orange and a whole palette of muddy browns cake Randy Wong-Westbrooke’s set design, which seems to crawl with a sticky patina of spilled concessions and sludgy mop water.” -San Francisco Chronicle
“Some essentials: Baker, who works in a tradition of strict realism, demands lifelike perfection in her settings, and Randy Wong-Westbooke’s set satisfies completely. Their design fully realizes a rundown movie house. It is typical of Baker’s vision that this realistic setting is also surreal because the audience is sitting in a theatre looking at a theatre. We sit where the screen would be. In a sense, we are the show.” -TheaterStorm
“Randy Wong-Westbrooke’s magnificently realistic set fully conjures a small, run-down old cinema, from the exit doors and curtain-lined walls to the quirky old lighting fixtures.” -Mercury News

“Set designer Randy Wong-Westbrooke could not have done a better job of bringing Serge’s spare-but-elegant apartment to life—a perfect fit for the compact Ashby Stage.” -Stage and Cinema
“Randy Wong-Westbrooke’s set transforms cleverly into each of the three characters’ apartments.” -Local Art Matters
“Pieces of Scenic Designer Randy Wong-Westbrooke’s minimalist set literally fall apart—a light drops from the wall, a chair collapses. Serge frantically tries to Scotch Tape them back together, mirroring the trio’s desperate attempts to repair their crumbling friendship. The production is cleverly staged, featuring modern movable set pieces that transition seamlessly between the characters’ homes.” -Front Row Review
